A note on Candle Magic

I thought I would share these titbits of information with you all just as a quirky little extra:,

History says that Eygyptians were the first people to make and use candles.

Candles are mentioned in bible writings as early as 10th centuary BC

By canon law ,candles used in some rituals in the Catholic Church must contain no less than 51 per cent beeswax.The rest can be vegetable or mineral wax but not tallow.

The Greeks and Romans were the first people to add wicks when making candles

The simplest (and smelliest)candles are known as rush lights and were made by dipping rushes in kitchen fat.

The first dipped candles ,made from beeswax were made in the 1200s,then molded candles in the 1400s and then by automatic machines in the 1800s

The fancy striped effect could first be achieved by using red pokeberry juice,green from nettles ,yellow from alder bark and various other natural things .

In the 19th Centuary a change was made in the way wicks were made in candles,instead of just twisting strands of cotton ,the wicks were plaited very tightly,as a result the burnt portion curled over into the candle instead of falling in a mess .

To regain a lost lovers affections thrust 2 pins or needles through the wick of a lit candle as you say their name

A green candle lit on a new moon brings prosperity

To light a candle from a hearth fire will prevent wealth

Likes: Peace and tranquility when i can get it and long walks on quiet beaches.I enjoy listening to music of various kinds depending on the situation ,in general i like to enjoy life and what it offers as i think life is all about experiences. i Love listening to music especially enya and the like and i can happily lose myself for hours just listening to some music with a good book.
Walking through woods and then laying under a tree watching the leaves fall down and how many colours there are on the leaves ,the quiet and calm that can be got from just being there and the things you notice that you wouldnt see otherwise.

Dislikes: people who think all we are about is running round naked.Crowded noisy cities with everyone bustling about on a mission to nowhere! People who treat animals like toys that can be thrown away when they feel like it and think they dont have feelings,people who think its ok to hurt others and not give a seconds thought to it .
